Nobody Told Me Recovery Would Be This Boring

Nobody talks about the part where you're trying so hard… and nothing seems to be changing.
“How are you feeling?”
I hate that question lately.
Because I don't know what to say.
Better? Kind of.
Back to normal? Definitely not.
I'm doing what I'm supposed to do.
I'm showing up. I'm doing the exercises. I'm trying to be careful.
And yet…
I still don't feel like me.
Nobody warned me about this part of recovery.
The part where the emergency is over, everyone else has moved on, and you're still thinking about your body every single day.
The same exercises.
The same little movements.
The same voice in your head asking:
“Is this actually working?”
We Expect Progress to Feel Bigger
We want the movie version.
Yesterday I couldn't.
Today I can.
🎉 I'm back.
Real recovery can be much quieter.
Maybe you stood in the kitchen long enough to cook dinner without needing to sit down.
Maybe you carried the groceries inside and didn't think about your shoulder.
Maybe you got out of bed and your first thought wasn't your back.
Maybe you picked up your child without preparing yourself first.
Nobody clapped.
You probably didn't even notice.
But your life got a tiny piece of itself back.
And those little moments matter.
This Is Why You Keep Going
At Primacare Physical Therapy, we know recovery isn't only about pain scores or how many repetitions you can do.
It's about getting back the ordinary things you never appreciated until they became difficult.
Driving.
Working.
Cooking.
Sleeping.
Playing with your kids.
Feeling like yourself again.
So if recovery feels slow right now, don't only ask:
“Am I completely better yet?”
Ask something different:
“What can I do today that was harder a month ago?”
Because sometimes recovery doesn't arrive with a big moment.
Sometimes you just realize one day that you got your life back—little by little.
